Sven Hug
Sven is interested in the many different evaluative practices and settings in academia as well as in how evaluations can be conducted appropriately and responsibly. His research focuses on the utility and limits of bibliometric databases and indicators in research evaluation. He also explores how to assess research in fields where quantitative approaches fail, such as the humanities.
He seeks to understand what makes peer review possible, how it works, what effects it has, how it can be improved, and why it is widespread in today’s research culture. Currently, he investigates evaluation criteria in grant peer review.
Sven also works as a professional evaluator and has more than 10 years of experience in conducting evaluations in the Swiss higher education and research system.
